Caerphilly Castle is the largest castle in Wales. Built by Gilbert de Clare in the 13th century, Caerphilly castle has been attacked and then rebuilt neuromas times over the centuries.
Once held by the much hated Huge De Spencer, Caerphilly Castle was the place where he and King Edward II heard the news that Edwards wife Queen Isabella had raised enough support and was on her way to capture them.
After this tensions between England and Wales once again spilled over to the battle field with the rebellion of Owian Glyndwr. Caerphilly Castle survived this war and was then passed through marriage to the Earls of Warwick.
After the Wars of the Roses the castle was granted to Jasper Tudor (uncle to King Henry VII) and it was from here that the various owners started to use Caerphilly Castle less and less in favour of the more fashionable Cardiff Castle.
When the castle was acquired by the Marquess of Bute in 1776 the 1st Marquess sought to protect the ruins. The 3rd Marquess of Bute reroofed the castle and had it survyed but it was the 4th Marquess who significantly repaired the castle between 1928 and 1939.
In 1950 the 5th Marquess of Bute gave Caerphilly Castle to the state and since then it has been managed by Cadw.
However, it seems that Caerphilly Castle could be the home of restless spirits, the tragic Lady in Green who is seen wandering the battlements giving off feelings of sorrow and lost.
There is also a legendry creature that is said to call Caerphilly Castle home, the terrifying Gwrach-y-Rhibyn (the hag of the mist) who is said to rise out of the moat to search for her next victim where she will claim their soul and drag them to hell.
On this tour we will have exclusive night time access to the inner castle where we will go to the areas where ghostly figures have been seen over the years.
